Visitors are being urged to stay out of the water at Surry Mountain Lake Beach after a water-quality check on Thursday found bacteria levels higher than New Hampshire allows for safe swimming.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said the beach is not safe for swimming at this time and pointed people to the warning signs posted around the lake. The agency noted that it plans to sample the water again on Monday and will give an update if conditions improve.
The warning follows the Corps’ Facebook post reporting that the bacteria readings at Surry Mountain Lake were above state standards.
