A Cheshire County jury began hearing evidence Monday in the case of Annthoni Bliss, a 24-year-old from Lyndeborough who is charged in connection with the death of a 23-month-old Keene boy.
The case centers on the January 2024 death of Luca Hudson. Bliss is facing a second-degree murder charge, which could carry a sentence of up to life in prison if he is convicted.
During the first day of trial, the state told jurors it intends to show that Luca died after suffering physical abuse allegedly caused by Bliss. Defense lawyer Robert Swales countered that the prosecution lacks convincing proof that anyone harmed the child and said the case rests on assumptions rather than hard evidence.
Bliss has been in the Cheshire County jail since his arrest in March 2025. He appeared Monday in a courtroom on Winter Street in Keene wearing street clothes.
The trial is scheduled to run through the end of the week.
