Following a thorough investigation police concluded that Berard had unlawfully represented himself as a member of law enforcement or a state official.
Authorities have taken action against a Newfane resident after allegations of impersonating a law enforcement officer arose. The Vermont State Police reported that this incident involved Frederick Berard, 59, who is suspected of posing as a police official on two separate evenings, June 17 and June 18, in downtown Newfane.
Law enforcement received a report on June 19 at around 8:26 a.m. regarding the incidents. Following a thorough investigation, police concluded that Berard had unlawfully represented himself as a member of law enforcement or a state official.
As a consequence of these allegations, Berard has been summoned to appear in the Windham County Superior Court, Criminal Division, scheduled for July 28, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.
Similarly, on June 7, Benjamin Thomas, a 27-year-old from Brattleboro, was also cited for similar offenses. He allegedly informed individuals in downtown Brattleboro that he was a police officer and had been hired by the town for security duties.
