City officials said any section shut down during the day is expected to reopen by the end of the workday.
Drivers passing through Central Square should plan for short-term disruptions next week as crews begin more downtown infrastructure work.
The city’s public works department said Friday that parking spaces on Central Square between Winter Street and West Street will be off limits while the work is underway. Detours will guide traffic around the affected area.
The West Street slip lane in Central Square is also expected to close occasionally as part of the early phase of the project. City officials said any section shut down during the day is expected to reopen by the end of the workday.
Liberty Utilities is still installing a new gas main on the west side of Central Square and along West Street from Main Street to Federal Street. That portion of the job is expected to take about two more weeks.
Separately, Casella Construction is scheduled to start replacing aging pipes under Central Square next week. Public Works Director Don Lussier has said that phase of the project is expected to continue until November.
