Keene High’s Project Graduation secures enough volunteers for 2027 event

The volunteer drive came after a stretch of staffing problems for the Keene High tradition.

Keene High School’s Project Graduation will continue in 2027 after organizers said Thursday they had filled the board positions needed to keep the annual celebration going.

The alcohol-free graduation party for Keene High seniors had been in doubt only days earlier. The group’s Facebook page had still been asking for volunteers, and planners were working to fill several important openings, including secretary and co-chair, before a Tuesday deadline. Organizers had said the event would be shut down if those seats remained empty after the cutoff.

By Thursday, the outlook had changed. In a Facebook post, Project Graduation said it now has a complete board and expects to move ahead with the yearly party for the class of 2027. The group also said the turnout at Tuesday night’s meeting showed strong community support and helped bring in enough people to keep the program operating.

The volunteer drive came after a stretch of staffing problems for the Keene High tradition. As recently as this spring Project Graduation was still about a dozen volunteers short.
