A warning has been issued in Windham County after officials reported a coyote in Westminster that may be rabid and was seen with quills.
The Windham County Sheriff’s Office said anyone who spots the animal should contact the office or a game warden, especially if the coyote appears aggressive. Residents are also being told to stay away from trails near Bellows Falls High School and the surrounding area until further notice.
Officials also urged people to keep dogs leashed. If a person has any physical contact with the animal, the sheriff’s office advised reaching out to a physician. If a pet comes into contact with the coyote, the recommendation is to call a veterinarian.
